Lara Spence was born in Cape Town, South Africa. In South Africa, she worked freelance performance and teaching jobs as well as with, Matchbox Theatre Collective, a release-based dance company. Lara came to New York in 2011 to train at the Ailey school and Broadway Dance Centre.
In 2013, she joined Nimbus Dance Works and performed and taught with them for 3 seasons. Lara has worked freelance jobs with Earl Mosley, Clifton Brown, Jeremy McQueen, Ray Mercer, Spark Movement Collective and LEON Dance Arts, among others. She has assisted Jeremy McQueen with work presented at the Fire Island Dance Festival 2013, Gypsy of the Year and at the Ailey school, as well as performed his work at Jacobs Pillow 2013.
In 2017, Lara moved to Tokyo, Japan to perform in a solo aerialist show at Tokyo Disney Sea, where she worked for 13 months. Lara is now based in Newcastle, CA where she has performed with Chadash Contemporary Dance Movement.
